JOURNEY

A scene is not a still photograph. Something has to change in time and space for a scene to be a scene. There has to be a journey. Someone, something has to change from the start of the scene to the end. Otherwise, why is the scene on the screen?
At the bottom of this article, you will see two still photographs that together give us the beginning and the end of a scene. They are portraits of a young man called Raúl Balbi, taken by the Argentinian artist and activist, photographer Marcelo Brodsky.
They look pretty much exactly the same. Same background, same young man, same light. But something has changed in the time that passed between the first portrait and the second. This shift that you see between these two photos is the drama in the scene.
