I made a speech yesterday, a speech about making a speech. I spoke to 500 advisors in financial planning, at an annual conference for the finance industry. OK, nothing, absolutely nothing could be further from my skill-set than financial planning. But my speech was about how the tools used by actors and directors can be vitally useful to get ahead in the world of business.
I guess the conference organisers understood that the skills and protocols in the world of the performing arts are valuable in other worlds as well. Good on them! Because yes, the skills you need to act and direct in the performing arts are transferable across to the business world. Just as the management, communications and HR skills in the business world are transferable into the worlds of making and performing stories.
After all, we all have to give speeches, pitches, presentations and auditions, all the time.
